Comenzó en el año 1974 y sigue todavía hoy en día. Cientos de estrellas del jazz y del rock han tocado allí. Algunos se retransmitieron para el resto de Europa o para su venta. Había maratones toda la noche o "rocknights" y la WDR producía festivales de música underground o Bizarre Festival. El fundador fue Peter Rüchel.
